The Martin County Commission approved a Comprehensive Plan Amendment to
allow an “inland port” with an industrial
distribution center of 1 million square feet and 150 acres of stacked
truck containers for the corner of Warfield Blvd and Allapattah Rd.
It was approved on April 8, 2008 by Commissioners DiTerlizzi, Weberman,
and Smith. The county staff recommended against this proposal to amend
our Comp Plan. Commissioners Heard and Valliere objected, citing
traffic concerns.
No one from Indiantown was at the meeting to tell the Commission
“NO”. But there is still time for your voice to be
heard. Let’s stop this from becoming a reality.
The Comprehensive Growth Management Plan amendment, CPA #08-12, was
sent to the Florida Dept of Community Affairs, and their report is
expected by June 15. The County Commission must then vote approval
again before the amendment is law. Your letters are needed now to the
Florida Dept of Community Affairs and the County Commission. See the
bottom of this page for a Sample Letter.

SAMPLE LETTER to the Dept of Community Affairs and Martin County
Commission:
I object to the Martin County Comp Plan “Quillen”
Amendment # 08-12 which changes the land use from residential to
industrial for 331 acres in Indiantown for the following reasons.
* The large distribution center with stacked truck containers will be
noisy, ugly and hazardous.
* The 24 hour/day industrial center would be next to our residential
areas Little Ranch Estates and Indianwood and will degrade the rural
lifestyle and quality of life.
* State Road 710 is the only inland connector road between West Palm
and Okeechobee. The new railroad spur across SR 710 would stop traffic
throughout the day with slow moving trains.
* The Indiantown area already has over 2,500 acres of industrial land
use designation.
* The truck traffic from this facility exceeds the Florida DOT state
level of service. This industrial port transfer facility does not fit
in with our vision of Indiantown as a rural and pleasant place to live.
Please do not approve this amendment.
