Save Martin County - Why Care?
Why should you care?

Over the years, informed citizens have protected Martin County from browardization by standing firm for our Martin County Comprehensive Growth Management Plan (our Comp Plan).
Together we've worked to avoid South Florida overdevelopment and its impacts on our schools, our roads, our libraries, and our taxes.

Only citizens staying involved with the “Study” will protect our future. The half million dollar study has only minimal citizen opportunities for education and input.  It’s important to attend one of the citizen input meetings, and email or write the Commissioners.

Where is the Study headed?

The big issue is the 200,000 acres outside the urban boundary and what kind of development should be allowed.  Under current rules, even if all rural lands were developed into 20 acre lots, it would only add be 8000 – 9000 lots.

That’s much less than if clustered ‘villages’ were allowed in the western lands. Allowing denser development is not a better alternative for the future.

The Study is headed towards changing our rules to allow more development.

The Commission majority is trying to convince you that what has protected our Martin County difference should now be abandoned.  They hired a costly consultant to legitimize the changes and tell us to replace 20 acre lots with more density and more development options.
