don’t have much time to be heard! Attend the
“Study” public input meetings. Tell the
Commissioners your opinion with email or letters.
Hold the Line! Keep the urban
boundary.
Keep the rural lands 1
unit per 20 acres.
1. Do not move the urban growth boundary. There is sufficient capacity
within the boundary to last for more than 20 years without raising
densities.
2. Do not allow urban services and uses outside the boundary.
That includes not allowing clustering in the rural lands.
3. Purchase the land needed for the Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).
4. Keep our current rules of 1 unit per 20 acres in the rural lands.
- Based on past growth rates, the reality is that only about
500 lots will be platted over the next 20 years.
- Even if all rural lands were developed into 20 acre lots,
it would only add 8000 – 9000 lots. That’s much
less than if ‘villages’ were allowed in the western
lands. South Florida is our history lesson of what happens
with denser development and weak rules.
- The county reports taxes on 20 acre lots more than pay for
their services. Smaller rural lots do not.
- If there are concerns that 20 acre ranches could subdivide,
include enforceable conservation easements for plats that will prevent
further subdivision & increased use intensity.
5. Don’t agree to further increases in densities inside the
urban service boundary. Abolish high densities allowed in mixed-use
areas.
6. Preserve land! The County should look to a sales tax initiative to
buy lands that should not be developed at all. The more land we
preserve now, the more there is for future generations!
Hold the Line! Keep the
urban boundary! Keep the rural lands 1 unit per 20 acres!
